Stephen Colbert Fans Ironically Lose Their Sense Of Satire

Posted by Willi on Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Exhibit A:

The New Yorker runs a satirical cartoon image of a political figure - this is news?  It’s clearly poking fun of the FOX sponsored campaign of smear on Obama.  I think it’s funny.  Much funnier that say being a conservative Republican and seeing a cartoon of your candidate doing something asinine that’s actually true (not satire).

If you have any doubt left about whether or not Wolf Blitzer is a moron . . .

Where’s Obama Going?

Posted by Willi on Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

I’ve been noodling my disappointment with Obama for several weeks now.  I think I’m ready to pull the trigger and dump my endorsement of him from this blog (assuming Dawn agrees).  Our family has donated close to $300 to his campaign over the past year and I feel like it’s people like us who allowed him to win the primary.  And now with the primary won, he’s a different candidate - definitely not the one I supported.

Between his support of faith based initiatives and the FISA legislation, he’s showing a pattern of supporting and catering to Bush doctrines.  I didn’t think Obama was capable of doing such a thing, yet he’s running towards the middle just as Kerry did in 2004.  I find this highly disappointing and upsetting for two reasons.

First, who in the hell is leading the Democratic party?  Where is the confidence in the right position (which for some reason is to the “left”)?  Who are the knuckleheads advising Obama to leave his base and reach out for people that believe in illegal wire tapping and the integration of church and state?  Obama you don’t need McCain’s base.  You’ve got this election - just be the same person that won the primary.  WTF is going on here?

Second, I feel had by Obama.  I feel like he lied to me.  I feel like he stole from me.  This is not good.  If the past couple months are an indication of the type of President he’s going to be - I don’t want him as President.  I want my money back.  This country is done for if we cannot manage to elect a real leader.

I think back to the Iowa Caucus.  There I was standing with two other people under the sign that said Chris Dodd.  Dodd is not supporting FISA.

This system sucks.

The Fight For The Window Seat Is Over People

Snagged this from Obama’s Flickr stream, which has a bunch of him and Hillary working the crowd in matching clothes.

Political Division In The Family

Posted by Willi on Sunday, June 8th, 2008

At the dinner table this evening Dawn and I were discussing that Hillary had finally conceded. Our daughter, who had met Hillary last year (Hillary asked how old she was and Penelope stared back like a deer in headlights), said to me:

I’m not grown up yet but if I was I would vote for Hillary Clinton because I’m a girl and she’s a girl.

I’m glad Hillary lost the nomination, but she sure has made an enormous impact on women, young women and littler girls everywhere. Penelope will grow up never doubting whether a woman can or should be President. Mission accomplished Hillary.

Timing Is Everything: Hillary Invites Me To Be Her Flickr Buddy

Posted by Willi on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Timing is everything. I just got an email from Hillary Clinton, informing me that she just added me as her Flickr contact. She’s reciprocating a request I made a while back after she joined in like April of this year. In comparison Obama and Edwards added me immediately after I added them on Flickr and other social networks (they’ve been using Flickr actively for over 18 months). I’m not going to argue that Flickr etiquette is a litmus test of a Presidential candidate . . . oh wait, yes I’m going to do just that.

Here’s why Obama is going to be the next president and not Hillary:

Flickr Contacts of Presidential Candidates

Those are the number of contacts each has on Flickr as of today at 6:52pm central time. Obama has collected about 70 testimonials (they seem to scroll down forever) and Clinton has 0. Clinton’s profile is about three pages worth of bio (yap yap yap me me me I’ve got all this “experience”), which crowds out her 0 testimonials and 72 contacts; while Obama’s bio is short at three paragraphs with a quote from MLK and plenty of room to let his community speak for him.

Hillary Has No Flickr Testimonials

Obama has been posting photos to his site almost hourly, and to that end he has stayed up front in my contacts feed, always on the radar. Hillary has uploaded THREE photos.

Hillary On Flickr

I realize Flickr is one site of many popular community sites on the Internet, but I think the extent to how these two candidates have used Flickr, and consequently understand how to use Flickr and other online communities as social marketing tools, speaks volumes. It is a perfect example of how Obama is using new technologies to connect directly with voters and power his campaign with the long tail, vs special interests. It’s extremely exciting to watch. Change is coming. Thank you Flickr ;)

I’m Beginning To Think McCain Would Be Worse Than Bush

Actually, yes, I’ll say it.  McCain is worse than Bush.  Oh my the Republican party is in some hard times.

Too Close To Call

Posted by Willi on Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

I’m sitting here trying to shut down the computer to go to bed, but in the last 20 minutes Hillary’s lead in Indiana has gone from 45k to 17k votes. It shouldn’t matter. Obama’s has won the nomination in the eyes of anyone who can count. But I feel compelled and anxious to watch and see if he does win Indiana and what Hillary will say then.

MSNBC just reported that 11% of Indiana voters were taking part in comedian Rush Limbaugh’s operation chaos. Anyone using the voting process in this mischievous manner should be deported to a country where citizens do not have the right to vote.

Reverend Wright Attracts Attention Of Dumb White Folks

Posted by Willi on Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

I haven’t really understood all the attention that the Reverend Wright issue is getting and have largely ignored it. Then I watched some recent coverage by FOX and MSNBC on Reverend Wright’s speech at the National Press Club event.

Here’s what Tucker Carlson and the MSNBC Morning Joe crew have to say about it:

I previously didn’t give much thought on the Reverend Wright issue largely because I just wanted to ignore it - I don’t want to see Obama railroaded. Now having heard the Reverend I do not understand what’s at issue here. Sure the guy has a unique style and flare, but he speaks his mind and honestly I agree with him. He makes a good point about differences in perception between black and other dialects. I haven’t attended church in decades but frankly I’d love go see this guy give a sermon. It’d be like having George Carlson or Chris Rock as your reverend (sans profanity of course).

It makes me sick to my stomach to see Tucker Carlson and the Morning Joe crew slander Obama through such ignorant statements about their highlights of the Reverend’s speech. The combination of witch hunting, close mindedness, ignorance and a complete lack of journalism infuriates me. It’s no wonder that I don’t watch network or cable news anymore except for the tidbits thrown on YouTube as an example of how ridiculous major news networks have become.

I want someone like Obama to take the presidency even more than I did yesterday. And I am really going to be mad at this country if he is made unelectable through this type of Reverend Wright nonsense.

I’m sincerely curious if anyone who reads this blog has an issue with Reverend Wright, and if so what that issue is, and if that issue has any relevance to Obama’s ability to run the country.
