Crazy Idea For A Stimulus Package

Posted by Willi on Monday, January 28th, 2008
END THE FREAKING WAR!

I just wanted to throw that idea out there and give the President an opportunity to not make an ass out of himself on national television tonight. Because that stimulus package that gives everyone some change to go spend at Walmart (China) . . . um, that’s not really going to stop the leak.

Where To Stay In Fairfield

Posted by Dawn on Sunday, January 27th, 2008

I was wondering where Richard Kind is staying while preforming at the Sondheim Center. Then I wondered where do any of the high profile people stay when they come into town?

We have 8 options here in our small town. There are 4 McHotels, 1 historic hotel downtown, 1 bed and breakfast, 1 unique out of the way place and one unique out of the way spa.

We have had business associates stay, or attempt to stay, at all of them except the newer Seven Roses B&B. The 4 McHotels are reported to be what you would expect. Clearly the worst being the Best Western and if a best had to be chosen, perhaps the Heartland. The Landmark, our historic downtown hotel, they wanted to stay, but after going into the room they left. I guess the musty smell overwhelmed them. The Raj was described as staying in your grandmother’s living room.

The Rukmapura Park was by far their favorite. It is the only place I have stayed in Fairfield. It was quite nice. I however, did feel like I was staying in the most deserted place on earth. The only thing in sight are a few temple-headed houses. Strangely, there are always cars parked in front of the hotel but you see NO ONE. No one at the desk, no one coming in or out of their east entrances, and even the buffet food just magically appears. Thank goodness I stayed there in the summer because if it had been the winter I would of freaked out.

The Shining

The Rukmapura Park breakfast buffet was the best hotel breakfast buffet I have had. It was things like cereals, juices and toast but all organic and a great variety. I think about all those hotel breakfast buffets across America; gallons of gooey scrambled eggs and gazillions of stale donuts and as my nieces’ say, “that’s disgusting!”

At The Rukmapura Park I slept like a baby. This is saying a lot considering the above and my sleep troubles at the time. Maybe there is something to the directions and light.

What is up with the Raj? When I moved here I imagined I’d go to the Raj for a “spa treatment” now and then and eat some fabulous food. But I’ve never made it out there for the food and I was told that the kind of “spa treatment” they do is not necessarily a treat, if you know what I mean. But geesh, the website makes it look totally swanky.

I’ll go stay at the Raj and get a treatment! All in the name of the blog. ;-) I’d also like to have breakfast at the Seven Roses. I read a rave review on line that mentioned granola. I LOVE good granola. I guess they sale it. I’ll have to check that out too.

Back In The US

Posted by Dawn on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

We landed today in St. Louis and it felt so cold and exposed. As we drove the trek home, the car swayed slightly back and forth from the wind. It takes about 3 hours to get to Fairfield from St. Louis. During that time I didn’t come up with an adjective to describe how I felt returning to the Midwest. I did thankfully however, feel “comforted” coming into Fairfield.

We drove into town at 8:30 tonight. We ran into snow just as we pulled in. It was lightly blanketing the land and houses. It felt cozy. A sleepy little town feeling. We didn’t see any cars on the streets. Porch lights, snow, and the neighbors garage and recycling containers to welcome us home. A new “sold” sign in front of the house where we turn onto our dead end street.

Best Grocery Shopping In Like 5 Years

Posted by Dawn on Saturday, January 12th, 2008

One of the great things for me to do in Seattle was late night grocery shopping. Squeezed into an urban landscape, at 2am a store can feel strangely deserted and very much like your own. You can roam the isles forever, leaving your cart wherever you dam well please.

And you see the most interesting people!

I think it was the first or second year I moved to Seattle I spotted Kurt Cobain at my QFC (Quality Food Center) on Capital Hill. Although it wasn’t a pretty sight (he did look like a serious heroin addict), that pretty much sealed the deal for me and Saturday nights became my favorite time to shop.

I believe it was a Saturday night grocery excursion when I discovered Sesame Seed Bran Sticks and Organic Pizza Rolls.

When I met Will I discovered he shared my love for nocturnal cuisine cruising. When we moved to Bainbridge Island it was a disappointment for the both of us to find that the T&C (The Town and Country) closed each night at, gasp, 11pm! Actually, this fact would matter little due to the wonderful fact we soon had a child and rarely found ourselves conscious after 10pm. This store got quiet in the late evenings but I always felt like I was being watched. I also got the distinct feeling that the cashiers would really rather I be quick about my shopping business so they could get home.

Now here in Fairfield, I shop at Everybody’s most of the time. It is always a packed who’s who scene. I wade my way through hordes of white wearing people with my itty bitty cart (what is the deal with those tiny carts?!), and have to apologize like five times for blocking someone’s way.

But, tonight. Ah, tonight. Dome time on Maharishi’s birthday. Paradise, a gift from the Maharishi. It was so dead that I could pretend it was midnight. And the music. It was like my own personal Karaoke! And those kids working don’t care what I am doing or how long I take. I celebrated by taking 20 minutes to browse the cosmetic products. While singing, “I want Candy” I picked out some foot creme.

Happy Birthday Maharishi

Posted by Dawn on Friday, January 11th, 2008

Tomorrow is the Maharishi’s birthday. And on that day he always makes a big announcement about plans for the New Year. I guess the talk out of Holland, where Maharishi lives, is the Maharishi may be getting ready to, “leave the body soon”. It may be interesting to see what he’s going to say tomorrow.

Here in Fairfield, there will be a celebration at the domes and then at the Maharishi Tower of Invincibility.

Can I just say that I am a bit jealous of all the attention this man gets on his birthday? He already has towers named after him and his own personal “followers” does he really need a world-wide birthday party and to make some big decree each and every year? I didn’t even get a party on my 40th.

LOVE The Funny Small Town Occurrences

Posted by Dawn on Thursday, January 10th, 2008

I recently posted about my hairdresser. Oh how funny I think I am posting that my hairdresser symbolizes something about my life.

Well the joke is on me because as soon as I posted, I found out my hairdresser stopped cutting hair (yikes - what does that mean?)

Now it gets funnier. I finally made a decision about whom to go to and I made an appointment yesterday.

At the dinner table Will tells me that he heard from a good friend that he is the “asshole” in a story being told to those in a seat of a certain hairdresser’s chair.

Yes, this is my new hairdresser!
I had my hair cut today.  She was a little taken aback when I told her who I was.   She was immediately forthcoming.  Which you gotta give her credit for that!

I had a great haircut.  I was entertained.  I’ll be going back.

I mean it’s really meant to be.  Her first name is my last name and her last name is my mother’s maiden name.
